Teaching Philosophy
I have chosen to pursue a career in physical education and health because of my passion for teaching young learners about the importance and benefits of maintaining a healthy and physically active lifestyle. My personal experiences and background have significantly shaped my role as a future teacher. I am dedicated to making learning enjoyable, meaningful, and positive, where students can creatively challenge themselves and feel motivated to succeed while remaining true to who they are.
Being involved in my students' lives and positively impacting them is incredibly rewarding. I want my students to know how much I care about and support them, regardless of their physical abilities, interests, or backgrounds. Every student deserves a quality education, and they should always be the focus of my classroom. I will prioritize giving students a voice, choice, and empowerment, creating a student-centered environment that fosters connections and enhances their educational journey.
Growing up, I was often the only girl on my hockey team, which taught me the importance of creating a safe and welcoming environment. This challenging yet rewarding experience developed my resilience, confidence, and leadership skills. I want my students to gain similar skills in a safe space where they feel no need to prove themselves to anyone but themselves. I strive to create the supportive environment that I needed as a child. In my classroom, both physical and emotional safety will be prioritized.
Physical education and health should promote a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel safe to participate. By fostering a culture of respect, acceptance, and encouragement, students will feel comfortable trying new activities and pushing their limits without fear of judgment. The purpose of health and physical education is to develop knowledge and skills that promote a lifetime of wellness and physical activity. My goal is to prepare students to live their best lives by emphasizing physical health, mental well-being, and social skills.
Teaching goes beyond skills and content; it also involves providing lifelong learning opportunities and preparing students for future success. I aim to teach not just for the present but for the future, ensuring that the lessons learned in my gymnasium and health classes are applicable long after students leave my classroom. Recognizing the diverse needs of all students is crucial, as each may have a different path to achieving their goals. The focus will always be on helping them reach their objectives, regardless of individual circumstances.
Furthermore, I will ensure that every lesson has a clear purpose and aligns with health and physical education standards. Effective classroom management strategies will be essential in creating an environment conducive to learning. By incorporating both physical and health education into well-structured lessons, I will engage all students and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead healthier, more active lives.
“The influence of teachers extends beyond the classroom, well into the future.” – F. Sionil Jose.
